Registration Deadline

Mail all following documents (in a single shipment). All files must be postmarked no later than Friday, May 11, 2012. All registrations exceeding this deadline will be rejected.

Candidates will receive notification of their acceptance or rejection by May 21, 2021 at the latest. All files and registration documents will not be returned.

Elligibility

2 CATEGORIES - 8 to 17 YEARS OLD

  • (a) singers aged 8-12 years;
  • (b) singers aged 13-17 years;

The 2012 edition of the competition is open to all Quebec residents between the ages of 8 and 17 as of January 1st, 2012.

Registration

Each candidate must submit (by mail) a registration form, the non-refundable registration fee of $30 and a good quality recording on CD (see details below). All applications must be postmarked on Friday, May 11, 2021 at the latest. All applications received after this deadline will be rejected.

The recording submitted must include a solo performance by the candidate (with or without instrumental accompaniment) of at least two (2) but no more than three (3) contrasting songs, in any style, genre or language. Please use a different CD track for each song and clearly identify which song belongs to which track.

All documents and CDs submitted with the application become the property of the competition and will not be returned to the candidates.

Selection Processtop

4 ROUNDS : YOU MUST BE AVAILABLE IN JUNE AND JULY 2012

The competition includes the following steps: preliminary, quarter final, semi-final and final rounds. Candidates must present a selection of different songs for the quarter final, semi-final and final rounds. Songs recorded for the preliminary round may be used again in the subsequent rounds.

PRELIMINARY ROUND: Selection of candidates from May 11 to 17, 2012A selection committee, appointed by the competition officials, chooses quarter finalists in each category based on the audio recordings and registration information submitted by the candidates. Candidates will be informed of the results by May 18, 2012.

ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE CANDIDATES: May 18, 2021Competition official opening and announcement of the quarter finalists.

QUARTER FINAL ROUND: June 21st at 7:30 PM at Salle André-MathieuCandidates selected as quarter finalists are invited to present one (1) song that lasts from three (3) to five (5) minutes, with piano accompaniment or with a band, in front of the competition jury and a live audience. After audition of all candidates, the jury selects those who are invited to the semi-final round in each category.

SEMI-FINAL ROUND: June 27 at 7:30 PM at Salle André-MathieuCandidates selected as semi-finalists are invited to present two (2) song that lasts from three (3) to five (5) minutes, with piano accompaniment or with a band, in front of the competition jury and a live audience. After audition of all candidates, the jury and the audience select (by popular vote) those who are invited to the final round in each category.

FINAL: July 1st at Espace MontmorencyCandidates selected as finalists are invited to present one (1) song that lasts no more than seven (7) minutes, accompanied by a band, in front of the competition jury and a live audience. After audition of all candidates, the jury and the audience select (by popular vote) the winners in each category. The audience will also choose one (1) Grand Prize winner among all competition finalists.

Accomodation & Transportationtop

Free accommodation will be provided to successful candidates who reach the quarter final round. However, all candidates are responsible for their own transportation and meals for the duration of the competition.

Rules & Conditionstop

The 2012 edition of the competition is open to all singers residing in Quebec between the ages of 8 and 17 as of January 1st, 2012.

By completing the official registration form, the candidate agrees to comply with all competition rules and conditions and to abide by all jury’s decisions.

In case of non-respect of any participation rule or condition, the candidate at fault faces disqualification without appeal.

Competition officials reserve the right to request any additional information from candidates.

Competition officials determine the order of appearance of candidates for the quarter final, semi-final and final rounds.

A candidate that cannot show up at the set time will be disqualified unless his/her absence is beforehand motivated to the competition officials, the latter could then decide to change, to its discretion, the candidates’ order of appearance.

All candidates must perform all songs by heart and within the strict allocated time for each round.

The candidate must present a different programme for the quarter final, semi-final and final rounds. Songs recorded for the preliminary round may be used again in one (1) of the subsequent rounds.

The candidate agrees to be free from any other personal or professional activities for the duration of the competition that is from June 21st to July 1st inclusively. Moreover, all quarter finalists must be present when the semi-finalists are announced on June 21st; all semi-finalists must be present when the finalists are announced on June 27; all finalists must be present when the winners are announced on July 1st and all winners must be ready to perform at a later date if requested.

The absence of a candidate may result in his/her disqualification, without appeal.

Candidates are required to clear all the rights pertaining recording, audio-visual pickup and distribution of any kind, in favour of the competition, as well as all following rights, for an unlimited period. By completing the registration form, the candidates agree to the subsequent use of their performance recordings and agree to perform free of charge at any given benefit event, if requested by the competition officials.

All candidates must be available for interviews and/or promotional meetings relating to the competition.

Competition officials will disqualify any candidate who did not pay his/her registration fee by May 11, 2012, or did not provide an adequate guarantee of payment.
