LE MONDIAL: A GLOBAL EVENT
Besides being one of the most important choral gatherings in the world, Mondial Loto-Québec de Laval (MLQL) is one of the most important music summer festivals in Quebec. The biggest national and international stars perform at the MLQL, often accompanied by mass choirs.
Gregory Charles is the creator and president of the MLQL, wich will celebrate its 10th anniversary in 2014.
A "RENDEZ-VOUS " FOR GLOBAL SUPERSTARS
With a population of 400 000, Laval, sister city to Montreal, is one of the largest cities in Canada. Therefore, it stands to reason that the biggest stars in the world would perform here. The Beach Boys, The Black Keys, LMFAO, YES, Styx, Aerosmith, Chicago, Creedence Clearwater Revisited, Take 6 and the legendary french singer Charles Aznavour are but a few of the legendary performers who have graced the Loto-Québec stage.
A "RENDEZ-VOUS" FOR MUSIC LOVERS
The Mondial's programming is unique and ambitious. It is annually comprised of over 200 shows ranging from individual choir performances and superstar events to the presentation of musical anthologies. Every year, Canadian music stars join Gregory Charles (MLQL president) in performing over the course of the event, legendary songbooks in their entirety (Harmonium's songbook in 2008, Beatles’ 219 songs in 2010, Elvis' 240 singles in 2011).
A TEMPLE FOR ALL MUSICAL STYLES
Every year, the MLQL presents a array of concerts and events ranging from Sunrise choral friendship concerts to late night rock extravaganzas, from symphonic events in local churches and concert halls to gigantic pop, rock and electronica mass appeal performances on our outdoor stages. In Laval, all good music is celebrated.
A STEPPING STONE FOR YOUNG TALENTS
With the activities focusing on young talent such as « Talent en Nord », the Stage Games and the academic programs at the core of our dedicated summer artistic camps, MLQL plays a major part in finding and growing young talent, helping youths and young adults integrate discipline and research to their daily artistic routines.
A PLACE WHERE CHOIRS MEET
Choral singing is the centerpiece of our event. It all started because of our President's love and passion for choral singing. Those who care for this growing art form share its core values: community, friendship, family and beauty. Since 2005, more than a thousand choirs have participated in our event. From as far as Russia, Brazil, China, Japan, Africa and all around Europe and America, more than 90 000 non-professional choristers have graced our stages and overwhelmed our audiences with their effort, passion and love of music.
These choristers have also charmed the stars that have sung with them on the main stages. They have sung in more than a 100 languages, with orchestra or a cappella, and have proven that humans are better when united and that they can do more together than they can ever hope to accomplish on their own.
